Due to a limitation of our payments gateway, some codes — for example a gift coupon code — cannot be redeemed on an account where there is an active recurring subscription.
To apply the code you have to turn off your recurring billing first. You will not lose any full access that you've paid for, and you can resubscribe immediately after if you wish.
